Tea Designed for Portsmouth

Portsmouth Tea, a blend of Assam and Zimbabwe black teas, offers a hearty and flavourful brew that’s well-suited for those who enjoy a robust cup of tea. This unique blend combines the distinct characteristics of Assam tea from India and Zimbabwe tea from Africa, resulting in a delightful beverage that caters to various taste preferences.

The qualities attributed to Portsmouth Tea, including its malty, smooth, sweet, and refreshing attributes, make it a standout choice among tea enthusiasts. The use of Broken Pekoe grade tea in the blend ensures a heightened flavour experience due to the breaking of tea leaves, enhancing the strength of the flavour when brewed.

Originally crafted to address the challenges posed by hard water in the Portsmouth area, Portsmouth Tea’s robust blend has proven to be adaptable and enjoyable for tea lovers everywhere. Its ability to thrive in different water conditions speaks to the careful selection of tea varieties and the skilful blending process that has gone into creating this unique blend.

Whether you’re in Portsmouth, the south Hampshire region or any other location, Portsmouth Tea offers a versatile and flavourful option for those seeking a bold and satisfying tea experience. Its ability to maintain its character regardless of water conditions makes it a reliable choice for tea enthusiasts across the globe.

The History of Portsmouth Tea

Did you know that Portsmouth is one of the first places where tea arrived in Britain? It was 14 May 1662 and the bride-to-be of King Charles II, Catherine of Braganza, daughter of King John of Portugal, arrived in Portsmouth. She brought with her a casket of tea and gave other members of the aristocracy a new interest.

Little did she know she was introducing what was to become one of the staples of British life.

The enduring fondness for a good cup of tea has been a consistent trait among the people of Portsmouth. The roots of what we now know as Portsmouth Tea stretch back to an era when tea was making its entry through the city’s port, carried along by the waves of trade and curiosity.

What our drinkers think

I was born in Portsmouth and grew up there. I am so pleased to have been introduced to Portsmouth tea! I have bought the tea and given it as a unique present from Portsmouth even reaching far shores in Finland! I particularly like the loose tea for it’s rich flavour but have bought both tea bags and loose leaf. It is a step above supermarket mass produced tea and a great improvement to my tea drinking regime!

There is normal day to day tea that you can buy in large supermarkets and then there is great tea that you can only buy from a handful of selected vendors who are absolutely passionate about their products. Alexis from Tea Mountain is one of those individuals, what he sells is the finest tea money can buy. His knowledge and enthusiasm for all things tea is truly infectious. He’s spend years researching the best tea plantations in China and negotiating with tea growers to bring the best teas to the UK. If you are looking for a great cup of tea, look no further.
